Fortunately, these romance sims aren’t limited to just men! There’s a huge market for dating sims called “otome games” marketed for women, as well. Single episodes are fine enough, but what about full series? Kami Nomi, or The World God Only Knows, twists things a little.

Whether or not you believe dating sims are purely for pervs, you cannot deny the incredible, atypical affairs of the heart on display in these games. Few other dating sims allow for such a player-driven experience, and fewer more give such a complete look into the lives of the NPCs. Falling in love with a visual novel character is one thing, but gradually transitioning from childhood friendship with a character to an adult relationship is something entirely different.
When Roger learned about L’s death, he found Mello with a group of the other orphans and Near on his own, working on a puzzle. Roger told them to follow him, where he told them about L’s defeat. While Mello was outraged and decided to leave the orphanage, Near remained calm. He dropped the pieces of the puzzle he was working on and began solving it again as a way of saying that he would finish what L could not.
While she goes and does that, he wiles away the time by playing a dating sim featuring Excel and Hyatt. However, he’s unaware that his play also affects an F-city resident called Watanabe, who finds Hyatt and tries to woo her. Their choices are shown via a dating sim-style HUD, often with Excel interfering in one way or another. At least they’re both gentlemen as, despite temptation, they never choose the 3rd option to ‘stick it in’. If they did, it would likely turn out to be the Hokey Pokey. When Near came in he seemed so plain and kinda like a copy of L. Yes I know they are different in many ways but still like half the time they are the same. Also another reason is when we see near we never see him alot like L.
Obata said that when he first saw Near, he “didn’t even know what the heck he was wearing.” He said that “it was tough” drawing Near’s apparel as he did not understand the assembly of his clothes.
